The Pleasure of His Company

A comedy about a globe-trotting, incorrigible playboy who returns to San Francisco to give away his daughter at her wedding, only to unsettle the carefully ordered household of his ex-wife and her new husband with his charm, restlessness, and refusal to grow up. His presence stirs old feelings, new tensions, and a great deal of comic chaos as the family tries to get through the wedding preparations with their patriarch underfoot. Beneath the farce lies a gentler question about whether a man who has spent his life chasing freedom can ever really settle down. The play was a Broadway success and was later adapted into a film starring Fred Astaire.
