Mame
Jerry Herman's musical, based on Patrick Dennis's novel, follows the free-spirited, larger-than-life Auntie Mame Dennis as she takes in her orphaned nephew Patrick and raises him according to her exuberant motto, "Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death." Across decades spanning the Roaring Twenties, the Depression, and beyond, Mame weathers financial ruin, a whirlwind marriage to a Southern gentleman, and the constant disapproval of stuffy relatives, all while trying to instill in Patrick her boundless love of adventure and unconventional living. When the grown Patrick threatens to become as narrow-minded as the people Mame despises, she intervenes one last time to save him from a life of dull conformity. Featuring show-stopping numbers like the title song and We Need a Little Christmas, it's a lavish, big-hearted celebration of living fully and without apology.
