Night watch

Night Watch is a suspense thriller by Lucille Fletcher centered on Elaine Wheeler, a wealthy but emotionally fragile woman who repeatedly wakes in the night convinced she has seen the body of a murdered man slumped in the window of the derelict townhouse across the way. Her husband and their circle of friends and doctors grow increasingly skeptical of her claims, suggesting that grief and nerves, rather than reality, are behind her visions, and the audience is left to wonder along with the other characters whether Elaine is losing her grip on sanity or is the only one seeing the truth. As tension mounts, old secrets and buried traumas surface, complicating the question of who can be trusted. Fletcher, also known for the classic thriller Sorry, Wrong Number, builds a slow-burn atmosphere of dread punctuated by shocking reveals. The play's twisty, Gaslight-style plotting and its exploration of perception versus reality made it a popular choice for community theaters seeking a chilling, audience-gripping mystery.
