Guys & Dolls

Frank Loesser's classic musical comedy, based on Damon Runyon's stories of Broadway lowlifes, follows small-time gambler Sky Masterson as he bets fellow gambler Nathan Detroit that he can woo prim mission worker Sarah Brown, only to find himself genuinely falling for her amid the neon-lit world of craps games, nightclubs, and colorful underworld characters. Meanwhile Nathan, engaged for fourteen years to showgirl Miss Adelaide, keeps postponing their wedding to run his illegal floating crap game, much to her comic exasperation. The show blends sharp, stylized Runyonesque dialogue with one of the great American musical scores, including numbers like Luck Be a Lady and Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat. It is celebrated as one of the most perfectly constructed musical comedies of the golden age of Broadway, balancing romance, comedy, and vivid New York atmosphere.
