Run for Your Wife

A British bedroom farce about a London taxi driver who has secretly married two different women in two different towns, carefully juggling both households by keeping the same working hours and using his cab schedule as cover. When a mishap forces both wives, and the meddling neighbors and a suspicious police officer, into the same place at the same time, the bigamist and his bewildered neighbor must scramble through an escalating series of lies, disguises, and near-discoveries to keep the double life from collapsing. Built on the precision-timed door-slamming and mistaken-identity conventions of classic British farce, the play piles absurdity upon absurdity as the truth comes closer and closer to unraveling. It was a major West End hit and remains a popular choice for community theaters drawn to its relentless comic pace.
