Bell, Book, and Candle
Directed By:
Cindy Gore
A romantic comedy about a modern-day witch living a double life in Greenwich Village, who casts a love spell on her unsuspecting, buttoned-up publisher neighbor to win his affection, only to discover that in doing so she risks losing her own magical powers, since witches who fall in love genuinely and are loved in return lose their gifts. As their whirlwind romance deepens, she must decide whether ordinary human love is worth trading away the extraordinary powers that have always set her apart. The play blends whimsical fantasy with sharp romantic comedy and a bohemian 1950s Village atmosphere of jazz clubs and eccentric occult shopkeepers. It later became a popular film and helped inspire the television series Bewitched.
