Weekends on the Lawn

Directed By:

Matt Bogdan

Community Players' "Weekends on the Lawn" was a series of small-cast, outdoor productions staged at 5109 Nutters Cross Road in a drive-in-style format (audiences watched from their cars, with audio broadcast via FM transmitter), born out of COVID-19's disruption of the regular indoor season. The series included Love Letters, A.R. Gurney's play following Andrew and Melissa's decades-long correspondence of hopes, missed opportunities, and unspoken feelings; Hate Mail, a comic two-hander in which Preston and Dalia's escalating correspondence begins with an angry refund request and spirals through cults, breakdowns, and an unlikely romance; a Broadway-themed concert; and Love, Loss, and What I Wore, based on Ilene Beckerman's book, a 90-minute collection of monologues and ensemble pieces about women, clothing, and memory.
